Shawn Turner
Marine Corps Public Affairs Officer, Office of the Inspector General, Department of Defense
Major Shawn Turner is a Marine Corps Public Affairs Officer currently serving in the Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Defense. He holds a B. A. degree in Communication from Texas State University and a M.A. Degree in Crisis Communication from George Mason University.
For the past 17 years, Turner has worked at all levels of military communication. As a public affairs professional, he has served as an overseas military correspondent and the Managing Editor of a nationally distributed military publication. While assigned to The Pentagon, he served as the Public Affairs Officer to both the Deputy Commandant for Marine Corps Plans, Policies and Operations and the Deputy Commandant for Marine Corps Aviation. His experience as a military Public Affairs Officer comprises extensive interaction with local, national and international media figures interested in military and government issues. In recent years Turner's focus has shifted to media research and analysis particularly during the phases of organizational crisis. He is heavily engaged in developing and delivering crisis related military and government media training and working to foster a better understanding of the relationship dynamics between organizations and stakeholders during times of crisis.
