Prior to joining the Grady College faculty, Dr. Freimuth was Director of Communication for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she worked from 1996 until 2003. During her tenure there, she built communication capacity in all of the centers, established training in health and risk communication, and developed an emergency communication system to cope with terrorism and emerging infectious diseases. Her research focuses on the role of communication in health promotion both in the U.S. and in developing countries. Dr. Freimuth started one of the first health communication graduate programs in the country at the University of Maryland. She received her doctorate degree from Florida State University.
