Elena Bessarabova Banas (M.A., University of Texas, and B.A., Kuban State University, Russia) is a Ph.D. candidate in Social Influence & Persuasion. She is a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Risk Communication Research. She studies the effects of discrepancy, emotion, and resistance on perceptions of risk and attitude change. In the area of risk communication, two current projects she is involved with deal with food-defense and understanding individuals’ post-food-recall behaviors. Both projects are funded by FDA grants.
