(CR),2 provides scholarly resources and expertise in several content areas including: food safety, environmental harm, security, and health risks.

The (CR)2 Open House will provide a chance for interested faculty members and graduate students in related areas to look at our new space and learn more about the center and how to become involved with the center for research collaboration. We hope you can join us!

Seminar

When TWA Flight 800 – en route from JFK Airport to Charles de Gaulle International Airport – exploded off Long Island in July 1996, many people thought it was the result of a terrorist attack.  The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) managed rescue and recovery efforts while investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FBI initiated parallel investigations into the causes of the crash.  Nearly twelve years later, investigators, researchers, and communication experts are still discussing and debating these actions and their results and findings, and we are still learning important lessons from the management – and mismanagement – of this tragedy.

Join us for a lively presentation and discussion of Lessons Learned from TWA Flight 800. Our speakers will include:  Judy Tenney, instructor of crisis communication at the University of Maryland and American University; Ted Lopatkeiwicz, Director of Public Affairs for NTSB; and Capt. Jim McPherson, Chief of Public Affairs for the USCG.

Learn how to develop a crisis communications plan, how to manage communications during the crisis (who, what, when, where and how), and how to get your organization through the post-crisis recovery period.

What’s a Speed-Seminar?
Many federal communicators have little time for continuing education. In response, the Federal Communicators Network is hosting a series of free Speed-Seminars this year. Go to the seminar first thing in the morning, learn the latest, and still get to work before lunch.

Questions? Contact Jeffrey Brooke at Jbrooke@gpo.gov.

If you would like to attend, please email Judy Tenney directly (jtenney@comcast.net) unless you are already a member of the FCN. In order to get clearance to enter this Federal building, participants may need to provide some information about themselves.
