The Center for Risk Communication offers educational opportunities to graduate students through a number of short term means.

Internships (for course credit)

Opportunities are available for undergraduate and graduate students to obtain course credit by working as a research assistant on current research projects or by assisting with Center activities.

Independent Study

Students may also wish to conduct research on Center focused topics with Center faculty as advisors.

Courses

  • Graduate Seminar in Health Communication (COMM 730)
    This course addresses the broad and diverse field of health communication including medical encounters, everyday communication about health, advertising, news, and public health campaigns. The course covers a select few theories and applied efforts that have been studied and documented. Contextual factors that influence theory and practice are also incorporated in discussions and readings. These factors include but are not limited to race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, culture, and gender. The overall goal of the course is to increase understanding of different forms and effects of health communication in theoretical domains and applied settings.
